TOOT TOOT!!!! Our planes, trains and automobiles month has kicked off with a bang! The kids are loving all the transportation stories, sights and sounds. Are you looking for a way to bring the excitement home?

As an expansion of the weekday train ride program for local school groups, the California State Railroad Museum is now offering excursion train rides to the general public. April 1, 8 , 15, 22, 29, and May 6. Two train ride times will be available at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on the scheduled Tuesdays when the trains are running.

All excursion trains depart from the Central Pacific Railroad Freight Depot in Old Sacramento (on Front Street between J and K Streets). Tickets cost $10 for adults, $5 for youth (ages 6-17) and FREE for children ages 5 and under. Weekday train ride tickets are only available in person on a first-come, first-served basis at 10:30 a.m. the day of the train ride at the Sacramento Southern Railroad ticket office.   • Train: Grab an egg carton, a toilet paper roll, some cotton and some misc craft leftovers to create this adorable train.
  • Automobile: Using a toilet paper roll and some buttons create this adorable car for your Littles to race.
