Red Room: Transportation Experiences

This month in the Red Room students will be introduced to a variety of transportation experiences! Students will come away with a new appreciation for vehicles that drive, propel and fly!

Week 1: Transportation Songs and Games

Week 1 in the Red Room will be focused on playing games and singing songs that are all related to transportation. The goal of the week is to get students moving and having fun! The weather is warming up and it is the perfect time to get outdoors and teach students how to play some organized games.

Week 1 Sub Theme Objectives:

  1. Participate in a variety of games having to do with transportation (i.e. “Red Light, Green Light,” “A Very Long Trip Mime Game,” “At the Train Station,” etc.).
  2. Sing a variety of transportation-related songs (i.e. “The Wheels on the Bus,” “Row, Row, Row Your Boat,” etc.)
  3. Learn why it is important to be a “good sport.”

Week 2: Henry Ford’s Factory

During week 2 students will have the opportunity to experience what life was like as a Ford Factory worker back in the early 20th century. For this week, the Red Room will be transformed into one of Henry Ford’s factories. Students will feel like they have been transported back in time 100 years. This will increase their comprehension of the subject matter and cause their imaginations to soar!

Week 2 Sub Theme Objectives:

  1. Understand what it was like to be a worker in one of Henry Ford’s factories (i.e. who worked in them, type of work performed, clothes worn, cars manufactured, etc.).
  2. Be familiar with who Henry Ford was.
  3. Pretend to be a worker in one of Henry Ford’s factory (i.e. assembly line manufacturing).
  4. Participate in the creation of a vehicle using the assembly-line method.

Week 3: Aerial Photography

Week 3 will be focused on learning about and experiencing aerial photography. Aerial photography is an art that depends on specific types of transportation: airplanes and helicopters! There is an incredible amount of variety in aerial photography. Some aerial photographers choose to photograph nature, while others prefer to photograph cityscapes. No matter what the subject, all aerial photographs are truly amazing.

Week 3 Sub Theme Objectives:

  1. Be familiar with the term “aerial photography” and understand how an aerial picture is taken.
  2. Pretend to be aerial photographers.
  3. View pictures taken by real aerial photographers and discuss what is seen.

Week 4: Racing and Car Shows

During week 4 our students will be introduced to two of the most popular hobbies in the United States: car racing and car shows. Both hobbies create excitement for millions of Americans and during week 4 students will learn why these American pastimes are so beloved.

Week 4 Sub Theme Objectives:

  1. Be introduced to the idea of a “car race” and participate in the simulation of one.
  2. Be familiar with the idea of a “car show” and know the types of vehicles that are typically shown.
